norelem has expanded its range to include powerful electromagnets and permanent electromagnets for securely holding ferromagnetic workpieces. These products are designed for applications in which high retaining forces, precise controllability and operational reliability are required - from automation to safety technology.
Electromagnets and permanent electromagnets have the same tasks, but differ in energy requirements and retaining behaviour. Electromagnets generate a magnetic field through continuous direct current, where magnetic force and switch status are quickly regulated via the current. They have a very strong hold, but release immediately as soon as the power supply is removed. Permanent electromagnets hold without continuous current and only require energy to neutralise or increase the magnetic field. The magnetic force remains even by a power failure, so they are particularly suitable for permanent retaining applications.
