Trapezoidal thread spindles, trapezoidal thread nuts

As the name suggests, this product family is divided into trapezoidal thread spindles and trapezoidal thread nuts.    

Trapezoidal thread spindles are a special type of spindle. They are often used in machines and plants to transmit movements and forces. Trapezoidal thread spindles are said to have a specific efficiency, as they offer high precision in motion control.   

The norelem range contains the following versions:

Trapezoidal thread spindles can be differentiated between single-start and multi-start threads. A multi-start thread is present when the thread has several thread starts. The multi-start trapezoidal thread spindle has only one pitch, just like the single-start thread. However, the double-start thread has several threads and leads that run parallel to each other.   

Single-start trapezoidal thread spindles are often used for fastening workpieces. Double-start trapezoidal thread spindles, on the other hand, are used to transmit movements and forces. Due to the two threads, more transmission is achieved with fewer revolutions. The feed movement is therefore twice as high as with the single-start trapezoidal thread screw.  

The trapeziodal thread nut , on the other hand, is a special type of nut. Together with the trapezoidal thread spindle, the trapezoidal thread nut converts rotary movements into linear movements.

In addition to different sizes and materials, norelem also offers trapezoidal thread nuts in single-start and double-start versions with different pitches. One with a left-hand threadand the other with a right-hand thread.

Splined shafts, splined hubs  

Splined shafts are a type of shaft that create positive connections. The shaft has a special profile. The splined hub is the counterpart to the splined shaft. It has an internal profile consisting of a varying number of splines.  

When splined shafts and splined hubs are connected, a splined shaft drive is created.

The splined shaft drive transmits large and rapidly changing torques.

Splined shaft drives are used in mechanical and plant engineering as well as in special machine construction and belong to the category of shaft-hub connections.   

Splined shafts are available from norelem in C45 steel and 1.4301 stainless steel. Splined hubs are available in stainless steel, gunmetal and steel.

Pillow block bearings (pedestal bearings, flange bearings)   

The “Pillow block bearings” category is basically divided into two product groups.

One is the pillow block bearing unit and the other is the insert bearing.   

While the pillow block bearing unit product group contains 15 products, the insert bearing group only contains three products.

These include the insert bearings UC, B and MUC stainless steel.   

Pillow block bearings refer to a ready-to-fit or pre-assembled pillow block bearing unit. These units consist of a bearing insert and the bearing housing. Bearing housings form the group of ready-to-fit ball bearings and are a simple way of supporting shafts.  

As the name of this category suggests, pillow block bearing units are divided into two main categories:

  • Pedestal bearings
  • Flange bearings   

Pedestal bearings are usually mounted in an upright position. The highest load capacity of pedestal bearings is achieved by horizontal mounting. The pedestal bearing contains a ball bearing that forms an assembly with the housing in which it is already located. Pedestal bearings are particularly suitable for radial loads and are very robust due to their design. 

Flange bearings , in contrast to pedestal bearings, have a somewhat flat bearing housing.

Flange bearings come with two or four mounting holes. This is why they are also known as 2-hole flanges or 4-hole flanges. Flange bearings are usually mounted on a screw-on surface in the direction of the shaft axis.

    

Bearing units   

The bearing units from norelem are categorised as follows:

   

Fixed bearings are in principle a clamping device with a moment joint. As a result, the fixed bearing continues to transfer forces, but no longer rotary torques. This type of bearing is frequently used. It is characterised by allowing rotation at the bearing point. However, it does not allow any displacement.   

Floating bearings are a displaceable bearing of a fixed bearing and are also known as plain bearings.

This type of bearing prevents movements that are perpendicular to the base of the floating bearing. It therefore absorbs exactly one force, which is why a floating bearing is also referred to as a univalent bearing.  

The difference between a fixed bearing and a floating bearing therefore lies in the possibility of displacement. The floating bearing allows more movement in various directions (horizontally) while the fixed bearing does not allow any displacement.   

The individual bearing units are available in a block version and flange version. All bearing units in the range come with an internal diameter of 6 mm to 50 mm.

   

Ball screw linear actuators   

Ball screw linear actuators are used for precise positioning of workpiece carriers and for converting a rotary movement into a linear movement or vice versa. The ball screw linear actuator is used as the drive element for the linear movement, while the threaded spindle is the driven element. The nut is connected to the part to be moved.

They are therefore mainly used in machine tools. In the past, trapezoidal thread spindles were used in machines, but nowadays they have been almost completely replaced by ball screws linear actuators.   

Ball screw linear actuators are driven by gears, belt drives or directly by a motor.

The balls in the grooves between the spindle and nut are used to convert the movement.

During rotation, the balls move axially. To ensure that the balls circulate, the balls are returned via return channels in the spindle nut ‒ this creates the circulation.  

The norelem range contains ball screw linear actuators with a diameter of 16 mm – 32 mm.
