    What is a positioning system?

    A positioning system places workpieces, tools or other objects repeatably into a specific position. There are manual, automated, single and multi-axis positioning systems. They can be used in machine and special machine construction, metrology, optical applications, many automation sectors, laboratories for creating test fixtures and model fabrication.  

        

    How do positioning systems work?

    Specifically, positioning systems are used to place workpieces, tools or other components with precision and thereby position them accurately. Different guide and drive technologies are used depending on the application, which enable linear or rotary movements with a high degree of accuracy. The guiding of the positioning system minimise play and ensures repeat accuracy. Consequently, positional accuracy can be guaranteed, which easily enables precision in tooling or handling systems.

    Overview of the°norelem°range of positioning systems

    The°norelem°range comprises an extensive selection of positioning systems. In addition to motorised positioning stages,°norelem°also offers classic manual positioning systems. 

    Positioning systems are available in short and long versions, as positioning stages, cross stages, vertical stages or rotary stages. Furthermore, the norelem range offers matching accessories for positioning systems, such as vertical brackets, turntables, swivel angles, rod ends, clamping baseplates, clamping angle plates and more. 

       

    Positioning stages

    °norelem°positioning stages are available in six versions: as a short model without a position indicator, with a position indicator, or with an electronic position indicator. The long version of°norelem°positioning stages is also available without a position indicator, with a position indicator or with an electronic position indicator from the°norelem° product range. 

    The°positioning stages with integrated position indicators°display the position of the carriage with an accuracy of 0.1 mm. The position indicator can be secured at four different points on the carriage with a screw. 

    For automated applications, the°positioning stages are also available with an electric drive°and integrated control. 

    Rotary positioning stages° from°norelem°have an°adjustment range° of 360° without end stops and can be adjusted freely to the left or right.°

    The°adjustment range°of the positioning systems varies depending on the length of the positioning stage:°

    • Between 11 mm and 25 mm for the short stages°

    • Between 23 mm and 86 mm for the long stages°

        

    Cross stages

    Cross stages°differ from positioning stages in that they offer a wider range of accessories. The modular design enables a°norelem°cross stage to be easily combined with positioning stages, vertical stages and other accessories of the same size. 

    The almost play-free guides and absolutely play-free spindle enables adjustment without the need to loosen or clamp the spindle. The scale is marked in 5 or 10 divisions; 1 division corresponds to 0.1 mm°of travel. 

       

    Vertical stage

    Vertical stages°are used when components and assemblies (e.g. stops, sensors, limit switches, tables, cameras, entire assemblies, etc.) need to be positioned at an adjustable height. 

    The vertical stage can be adjusted in height by manually rotating the scaled knob. One graduation of the scaled knob corresponds to 0.1 mm of lifting travel. The vertical stage can also be easily combined in its respective size through the modular principle. 

       

    Turntables

    turntable°is a round device that enables workpieces to be aligned precisely at a specific angle. When the clamping lever is released, the turntable can be rotated through 360° on a base. The turntable indexes every 90°, with the locking mechanism consisting of a ball spring plunger that can be easily removed if required. 

    Angular adjustment is set by scale accurate to within 2°. The turntable can be combined with other positioning systems of the corresponding size. 

       

    Swivel angle

    Swivel angles°are the rotation and tilt ranges that specify the maximum degree of rotation and the maximum°degree of tilt°of an axis. This defines the maximum distance a component, table or sensor can be moved within a system. Swivel angles are mounted on the rotary positioning stage, thereby offering extended mounting options. 

       

    Mounting bracket

    Mounting brackets°are fixed and stable at 90° or 45° angles and are used to precisely align and secure axles,°sensors or workpieces in relation to one another. Mounting brackets from°norelem°are milled and anodised. 

       

    Adapter plate

    Adapter plates°are standard connecting elements that enable different components to be fitted together precisely. As a result, they are used to connect positioning systems of a wide variety of sizes to one another.
